Hi,
I'm considering an 11x14 Svedovsky Large Format Camera. Do you know anything about them? I.e. dependability, reliability. $3190.00 is in my price range.
Thank you

Hi, I have never used or seen one in person, so I can't share any helpful thoughts. Hopefully others may have some experience they can share.

I have not used or seen one in person but they look like beautiful cameras. My suggestion for you is to try to determine what you want to do with that camera. What kind of images do you want to make? What kind of lenses will you need? Do you need it to be portable (size and weight)? One of the things that often isn't looked at is bellows draw. If you want to do portraits a 24"/600 mm lens would be ideal (IMO) which means you probably need at least 36" of bellows. What is the shortest focal length you can use?
Good luck. If you buy it show us some pics.

Thank you both. I'm considering head/shoulder, obviously contact printed, portraits.
Eyeing: Nikon Nikkor Q 450mm F9 lens (covers 16X20) in Copal #3 (M alternative)

That should give you some good images.

450mm on 16x20 for portraits is a great choice for that slightly wider perspective. A standard lens of 24"/600mm on 16x20 is the gold standard for head shots. Having both in your toolkit would be ideal. That should give you some good images.

That's a great point Tim. You can take portraits with any focal length but we each seem to find the one that we like when doing portraits. I prefer a moderate telephoto of 85-105 mm lens for the 35mm format. For 8x10 I like 450mm. I haven't done on my new format of 14x17 but I probably would prefer a 30"/775mm lens for that.
That is something for you to consider darrylpsdm. A 450mm on the 11x14 is a "normal" lens. If you are looking for the moderate telephoto lens you might want to consider a 600mm.
